Observed: on a multi-profile install where one profile's state.db predates
the agent's `source` column, errors.log gained one identical line every
~15 s (276 lines in ~70 min):
api.models WARNING agent session listing skipped: state.db at
/data/hermes/profiles/planner/state.db has no 'source' column (older
hermes-agent?). Agent sessions unavailable. Upgrade hermes-agent to
fix this.
Mechanism: api/agent_sessions.py read_importable_agent_session_rows()
runs `PRAGMA table_info(sessions)` and warns unconditionally when the
column is absent (api/agent_sessions.py:564 before this change).
api/models.py get_cli_sessions(all_profiles=True) calls it for every
profile on every sidebar poll, behind only the 5 s
_CLI_SESSIONS_CACHE_TTL_SECONDS cache, so the same DB re-emits the same
warning on every cache miss. The condition is a property of the DB
file, not of the poll.
Fix: a module-level `_SOURCE_COLUMN_WARNED_DB_PATHS: set[str]` keyed by
the resolved db_path. The warning fires the first time a given path is
seen in the process and is suppressed after that; a different path
warns on its own. Message text is unchanged. Process-lifetime only: a
restart warns again, which is intended (the line remains the operator's
cue that the agent still needs upgrading). Plain set mutation under the
GIL is sufficient; a duplicate line from two racing first calls is
harmless.
Tests (tests/test_issue634.py, real pre-`source` sqlite DBs under
tmp_path, asserting on captured log records):
- same db_path called twice -> exactly one WARNING (failed before:
`assert 2 == 1`)
- two db_paths, then the first again -> exactly two WARNINGs, one per
path (failed before: `assert 3 == 2`)
The seven existing #634 source-shape tests still pass; neighbours
test_issue3762/3930/5455/1494 pass.
Deliberately not changed: the exception-path warning in
get_cli_sessions() (api/models.py), the read-only-open fallback warning,
and the 5 s cache TTL. The operator-side root cause (the agent
reconciler creating a pre-`source` state.db) is a separate upstream fix;
this only stops the repetition.
greptile P2: the Python mirror's handle_ul/handle_ol closed the parent
<li> before opening the child <ul>/<ol> for same-marker nested lists
('- parent\n - child'), so structural assertions passed without
validating renderMd()'s parent-child hierarchy. Child lists now render
inside the parent <li>, byte-matching renderMd() for the two-level case;
adds a mirror regression test asserting the exact nested structure.
openItem() received ordered but dropped it from the item constructor, so
it.ordered was always undefined and every item looked unordered at the
task-list check. An ordered item whose text begins with [x] or [ ] (e.g.
'1. [x] shipped') was silently converted to a task icon and lost its
literal prefix. Task-list rendering now applies only to unordered items.
Two Codex adversarial-security-gate findings on the batch:
1. #7331 CORE (backward-compat break): making '|' an unconditional trusted-groups
separator would re-split an existing deployment whose group NAME legitimately
contains a literal '|' (e.g. 'unprivileged|admins' read as one group), silently
changing its profile binding. Pipe splitting is now OPT-IN via
HERMES_WEBUI_TRUSTED_GROUPS_PIPE_SEPARATOR; comma/newline stay the default.
Tests: literal-pipe preserved by default, pipe splits only with the flag set.
2. #6772 follow-up (my own hardening introduced it): rebuilding the origin from
parsed parts dropped the brackets around an IPv6 host, so 'http://[::1]:8787'
became 'http://::1:8787' and never matched the browser's bracketed
clientDataJSON.origin -> passkey login over IPv6 would fail. Re-bracket IPv6
literals. Added rp_context regression tests (Origin-first, port preserved,
IPv6 bracketed, malformed->Host fallback, userinfo stripped).
The Hermes Agent's state-module refactor (agent commit 53db597201, released
v2026.9.7) renamed SessionDB.set_auto_title_if_empty -> set_auto_title(
session_id, title, *, source) and (agent commit 14791b4d4e) dropped the
tools.approval._ApprovalEntry back-compat facade (class moved, unchanged, to
tools.approval_gateway_wait).
Production impact (real, silent): api.state_sync.sync_session_title called the
removed set_auto_title_if_empty, whose AttributeError was swallowed by the
surrounding `except Exception: logger.debug(...)`, so WebUI auto-generated
session titles stopped persisting to state.db on agent >= v2026.9.7 — hermes
sessions list went blank again (the exact #6892 regression). Now calls
set_auto_title with LLM provenance, which preserves the identical semantics
(only fills NULL/lower-authority title, returns False untouched on a manual
rename, ValueError -> get_next_title_in_lineage #N de-dup).
Test fixes (agent-coupled; skip on GitHub CI which installs no agent, so they
only surface on an agent-equipped box like our gate):
1. tools.approval._ApprovalEntry -> idempotent autouse conftest compat shim
backfilling the class from its post-split location only when the installed
agent lacks the dropped facade. No production code imports it.
2. test_goal_command_webui::test_profile_goal_falls_back_when_session_db_path_is_frozen
was missing the monkeypatch.syspath_prepend(...) that every sibling test in
the file has, so its bare `import hermes_state` failed under full-suite
ordering after a predecessor stripped the agent dir from sys.path. Added it.
Verified: authoritative 5-shard CI-equivalent split all green (0 failed);
each failure proven pre-existing on clean master (not this diff).
Per review feedback on #7331: cover comma, pipe, newline, mixed
separators, repeated/adjacent separators, and surrounding whitespace
directly against _trusted_groups_header_value(), in addition to the
existing end-to-end bound_profile regression test.
The not-found reply capped available_skills at 20 with no total and no
truncation marker, so a caller with more skills than the cap was handed a
partial list that reads as the complete set. A skill sorting past the cut
looked uninstalled.
Keep the bound; stop it lying. The payload now carries total_skills and
available_skills_truncated, and the hint names how many of how many were
shown, matching the (list, truncated) shape already used for capped commit
subject lists in api/updates.py.
The case labelled as an echo further back than the window still ended the
buffer with the suffix, so it matched regardless of the window. Replace it
with a buffer whose whitespace-padded echo spans more than the default
window, and add a dedicated test proving the same echo is rejected with the
default window and found once the window covers it, for both the optimised
scan and the reference oracle.
The new normalize test now stubs agent.anthropic_adapter in sys.modules
(CI has no agent package — real import raised ModuleNotFoundError), and the
issue-1013 codex fake ports to the v0.21 _get_transport contract instead of
the deleted _normalize_codex_response method.
hermes-agent v0.21 removed agent.anthropic_adapter.normalize_anthropic_response and the AIAgent._normalize_codex_response method; the sanctioned out-of-band contract is now agent._get_transport(<mode>).normalize_response(...) returning NormalizedResponse (.content). Port the anthropic_messages and codex_responses branches of generate_title_raw_via_agent (api/streaming.py) and _agent_text_completion (api/routes.py); on agent v0.21 those branches currently die on import/attribute errors and silently fall back, degrading title generation and handoff summaries. build_anthropic_kwargs, _anthropic_messages_create, and _run_codex_stream are unchanged in v0.21 and stay as-is.
Named custom providers are only routable when the slug resolves to a real,
unique custom_providers[] entry. A stale session provider such as
'custom:missing' must not be minted into an @custom:missing:... route -
resolve_model_provider() would take the named-provider lane and find no
matching endpoint. _unique_custom_provider_entry() returns None for unknown
slugs and raises AmbiguousCustomProviderError for collisions, matching the
point-of-return guard used by resolve_model_provider.
Addresses maintainer review on #7356. Adds two regression tests: unknown
named custom slug stays bare, ambiguous normalized slug fails closed.
model_with_provider_context() passed any slash-bearing model ID through
bare when the session provider was not OpenRouter/ACP/plugin and not
listed under config.yaml -> providers:. That dropped the hint for portal
providers (nous, nvidia, opencode-zen, opencode-go) and named custom
providers (custom:<slug>), so resolve_model_provider() fell back to the
profile default provider + base_url and sent a vendor-scoped id to the
wrong endpoint (HTTP 404, e.g. upstage/solar-pro4:free to api.x.ai).
Emit an explicit @provider:model hint for any known routable provider
that differs from the configured default; keep the bare passthrough for
unknown/ambiguous provider slugs so custom/proxy base_url routing stays
in charge. Closes#7333.
`_strip_compact_echo_suffix` probed every candidate cut index and re-folded
the whole remaining tail for each probe, so the cost grew with
`window x suffix` rather than with the data actually inspected. It runs up to
four times per interim assistant message, on the reasoning buffer, the shared
stream mirror and up to two per-message segments.
The practical effect is worst on the longest message of a turn: 297ms for a
200-character message but 5.6s for a 6000-character one, measured on the live
process. That time is spent holding the GIL, so a single long final message
also stalls every other stream served by the same worker. Profiling a live
turn attributed ~5% of total CPU to this one helper.
Fold the window once, then walk backwards across exactly as many non-space
characters as the folded suffix holds. `str.isspace` and the `\s` pattern used
by `_compact_for_echo_compare` agree on all 1114112 Unicode code points, so
the folded view and the walk stay consistent.
Behaviour is unchanged, including the leftmost-cut tie-break on repeated text
and the bounded search window. The new test pins equivalence against a naive
reference oracle over ~2020 cases (exact, partial and absent echoes, mixed
whitespace, unicode, empty and None inputs, repetitions, out-of-window
echoes), asserts the fold no longer runs once per cut index, and caps the
runtime of a long-conclusion call.
Measured: 200 chars 297ms -> 0.149ms, 6000 chars 5645ms -> 0.720ms.
After rewind/cache-miss the keyed visible row stayed distinct from the
persistent parser candidate, so every later growth frame deep-cloned the
parser DOM into the old row. That cut off the previous tail word's
~620ms fade and broke word-node identity.
Promote the parser-owned candidate into the existing row's DOM position
once, mute the already-rendered prefix on the real parser body, and
return the adopted node so later keyed renders hit existing === node.
Regression: two post-transition growth frames keep the first new tail
span as the same .is-new node until an explicit animationend.
Cursorless markdown rebuilds cloned the live parser tree, then later
source growth appended raw bytes through _appendTransparentFadeText.
Incomplete emphasis (Hello ** / Hello **world**) became literal
**world** while the candidate already had <strong>world</strong>.
Parser-owned candidates now keep reconciling from the parsed DOM.
Pending and MEDIA tails stay on the parser. Rendered-prefix mute is
unchanged.
Greptile P1 follow-up on the fade-row rebuild: when a cursorless live
markdown row adopts the incremental node's cloned DOM, that DOM lags the
source text by the streaming parser's held-back tail (pending/text
buffers). Keeping the full source-length resume cursor made the next
reconciliation append nothing, so the pending characters stayed missing
from the live row until settlement.
Read the held-back length from the parser bound on the candidate body
(_smdBindParserIdentity) and trim the source-space cursor by exactly
that length, so the cursor matches the adopted content and the next
reconciliation re-appends the pending tail.
Regression: rebuild while the parser holds an unrendered tail, then
reconcile again — the pending text must appear in the live row before
settlement.
Review follow-ups for #7082:
- Maintainer should-fix: the no-cursor rebuild branch of
_refreshTransparentFadeProseRow cleared the body and re-wrapped every
word as .is-new, so the whole visible row dipped to opacity 0 and
faded back (~620ms), and wholesale node replacement invited the
one-time scroll-anchor bounce (#6257). Now the rendered text is
snapshotted before the clear and the messages.js
_streamFadeMuteRenderedPrefix idiom is re-applied after the rebuild,
so only genuinely-new tail words animate. The helper is exported on
window (__streamFadeMuteRenderedPrefix) the same way
__anchorProseIncrementalNode is.
- Greptile P1: the same branch passed raw source text to
_appendTransparentFadeText, flattening live markdown rows to literal
syntax (links/emphasis/headings lost until settlement). The rebuild
now adopts a deep clone of the candidate's parsed .msg-body (the
incremental streaming-markdown output) when one exists, so the parsed
DOM survives; the plain-text rebuild remains only as fallback for
candidates without a parsed body. The resume cursor stays in source
space when rendered text diverges from source (markdown), and shrinks
to the rendered prefix for plain prose so the parser's held-back
character is re-appended on the next delta instead of dropped.
Regression tests: rebuild must not re-animate the already-rendered
prefix (tail-only .is-new), and rebuild must keep parsed <a>/<strong>
DOM with no literal markdown in the visible text. The two existing
tests of this PR are unchanged and still pass.
Transparent-stream progress rows are built incrementally by
`_anchorProseIncrementalNode`, which streams source text into the vendored
streaming-markdown parser. That parser always holds the most recently written
character in its pending buffer, so a live row's rendered `.msg-body` text
trails its source text by one character.
`_refreshTransparentFadeProseRow` resumed appending from the
`data-stream-fade-text` cursor but fell back to `body.textContent` when the
attribute was absent — exactly the case for incrementally built rows, which
never set it. That fallback mixed two coordinate spaces (rendered text vs
source text), so the computed delta started one character early, in the middle
of a word. The delta was then appended as a sibling of the parser's open `<p>`,
and since `<p>` is a block box the tail rendered on its own line: a single word
split across two lines ("Ces deu" / "x fichiers").
Two independent fixes:
1. Resume strictly from the source-space cursor. When no cursor exists we
cannot know how much source is already rendered, so rebuild the body
instead of guessing a delta from rendered text.
2. Append into the trailing block element rather than the `.msg-body` root, so
a continuation of the current sentence stays on the same line even if a
cursor is ever stale.
Regression tests drive the real vendored parser to build a live row exactly as
production does, assert the parser really does lag its source, and fail if any
word is torn across a block boundary. The existing reconcile harness gains the
new helper dependency.
esc() is HTML-only escaping; the browser decodes attribute entities BEFORE
parsing an inline handler, so onclick="fn('${esc(id)}')" let any id
containing a quote break out of the JS string literal. _kanbanJsArg solved
this for kanban dependencies only; promote it to jsArg() in ui.js and route
every inline-handler argument through it (panels.js cron/kanban/notes/
passkeys/gateway/checkpoints, sessions.js handoff hint, onboarding.js OAuth
device code). Adds a Playwright round-trip proof and a source guard against
reintroducing the esc()-only pattern.
Authentik's proxy provider on this deployment joins multiple group
names with "|" instead of "," (e.g. "admins|developpeur"). The
comma-only split in _trusted_groups_header_value() treated that whole
string as a single unmatched group name, silently dropping the
session to the unbound "default" profile even for identities that
are legitimate members of a mapped group. Single-group identities were
never affected since there was no separator to parse.
Accept comma, pipe, and newline as equivalent separators so the parser
works regardless of which the outpost happens to send.
Removes the local re-import of api.streaming._session_payload_with_full_messages
inside test_in_tail_duplicate_guard_refuses_bounded_and_full_revision_accepted;
it is already imported at module level (line 17) and unused in the function body,
tripping F401 on CI's hosted lint. Mechanical maintainer fix per auto-fix policy.

Clicking "Send edit" a second time while the first is still working starts a
second full truncate. Observed in the wild on a laggy instance: seven concurrent
POST /api/session/truncate, 5.2s / 8.3s / 6.7s / 7.4s / 8.1s / 8.5s, from one
user clicking repeatedly because the UI had not yet acknowledged the first click.
submitEdit's only guard was S.busy — but send() does not set that until the LAST
line of the function, after two multi-second awaits:
if(!S.session || S.busy) return; // S.busy still false
const absoluteKeepCount = _oldestIdx + msgIdx;
await _ensureAllMessagesLoaded(); // ~6.4s on a long session
await api('/api/session/truncate', ...); // 5-8s under load
await send(); // S.busy finally set
On a 2000-message session that is a 10s+ window in which every further click
runs the whole destructive path again.
The load is the visible symptom; the hazard is worse. absoluteKeepCount is
captured BEFORE the awaits deliberately — at click time _oldestIdx is the loaded
window's offset and msgIdx is window-relative, so the sum is the true absolute
index (pinned by test_submit_edit_captures_absolute_before_await, the #2184
pattern). But the first call's _ensureAllMessagesLoaded() sets _oldestIdx = 0.
A second call entering after that computes `0 + msgIdx` from a msgIdx that is
still window-relative — a far smaller keep_count. Truncating a long session to
that would delete most of its history.
Fix: a module-scope _submitEditInFlight flag, raised before the first await and
cleared in a finally. Guarded at the function rather than at the click handler
because the edit is also submittable with Enter (the keydown handler clicks the
button), so a handler-only guard would leave that path open, and because a future
caller would silently reopen the hole. The finally means an early return or a
throw cannot wedge editing off for the rest of the page's life.
Deliberately NOT changed:
- The pre-await capture stays where it is. Recomputing keep_count after
_ensureAllMessagesLoaded() looks like the obvious fix and is wrong: it would
pair _oldestIdx=0 with a window-relative msgIdx and break #2184 outright.
- regenerateResponse has the same S.busy-only shape, but no longer client-side
truncates (it delegates to the atomic startRegeneration) and validates the
clicked index against latestAssistantIndex, so a double click is refused
server-side rather than being destructive. Left alone to keep this diff to the
fault.
- No UI feedback added. Extra clicks are now harmless, but the button still does
not visibly acknowledge the first one, which is what provoked the clicking.
Worth a follow-up; it is a UX change, not this correctness fix.
Not reproduced end-to-end: this environment cannot run a real agent turn, so the
seven-truncate storm comes from the reporter's network log, not from a local
repro. The guard is verified by source-level test only.
test_submit_edit_is_guarded_against_reentry pins the flag, that it is raised
before the first await and cleared in a finally after send(). Confirmed to FAIL
when the guard is reverted. The three pre-existing tests in that file still pass.
Broad sweep: 2457 passed, 13 failed — all pre-existing test_update_banner_fixes
ordering pollution, identical on a clean tree. One earlier run of the same sweep
showed a 14th failure that did not reproduce across two further runs and whose
name I did not capture; flagging it rather than claiming a clean baseline.
