state_db_file_uri() quoted the POSIX path as a str; an undecodable filename
byte is carried as a surrogateescape code point, which quote() rejects with
UnicodeEncodeError, and get_cli_sessions() swallowed that as an empty
session list. Quote os.fsencode() bytes instead (what Path.as_uri() did on
master). Regression test: a b'\xff' HERMES_HOME component opens read-only.

Review follow-ups on #7445 (nesquena-hermes CHANGES_REQUESTED + Greptile).
api/agent_sessions.py
- The read-only pre-aggregated `latest_messages` candidate ordering now
applies to every missing-index projection (default sidebar, gateway
watcher, cron/webhook/kanban views), not only `include_sources ==
("cron",)`. Since the listing no longer self-heals the index, the
correlated `MAX(mx.timestamp)` scan re-ran on every load: 9.86 s on a
5,000-session / 20,000-message DB vs 0.044 s after this change, with
identical selected rows and order. The indexed seek is unchanged.
- `state_db_file_uri()` / `state_db_readonly_uri()` replace
`Path.as_uri()`: a UNC `HERMES_HOME` produced `file://server/share/...`
and CPython's bundled SQLite (3.11-3.13 Windows builds, no
SQLITE_ALLOW_URI_AUTHORITY) rejected the authority, so every agent-backed
session vanished. The builder emits the empty-authority
`file:////server/share/state.db?mode=ro`, keeps `file:///C:/...` for
drive letters, strips `\\?\` / `\\?\UNC\` prefixes, quotes `?`/`#`, and
leaves POSIX output byte-identical. Strict `mode=ro`, no writable
fallback.
scripts/ensure_state_db_read_indexes.py
- `fcntl` / `msvcrt` are imported conditionally; the module imports and
the no-`--lock-file` path runs on native Windows. `--lock-file` uses
`flock` on POSIX, `msvcrt.locking(LK_NBLCK)` on Windows, and fails with
a clear RuntimeError when neither exists. The rw open reuses the
UNC-aware URI builder.
docs/troubleshooting.md
- Operator section: read-only contract, degraded missing-index listing,
drained maintenance prerequisites, lock behaviour, failure modes, UNC.
Tests: tests/test_pr7445_readonly_review_followups.py (19 tests, red
before this change: correlated-subquery plan, missing URI builder,
ImportError on fcntl). Query-plan contract via EXPLAIN QUERY PLAN — no
CORRELATED SCALAR SUBQUERY on missing-index listings, identical rows to
the indexed listing; platform-parametrised URI cases; maintenance module
imported with `sys.modules["fcntl"] = None`. test_issue2628 no longer
pins the cron-only gate; the flock-held test skips without fcntl.
Readers never upgrade to writers. open_state_db_readonly() opens
file:...?mode=ro only; a read-only open failure propagates instead of
silently retrying with a write-capable handle on the multi-GiB WAL
database the agent is streaming into. The session listing no longer
self-heals idx_messages_session with CREATE INDEX (a writer lock held for
minutes on a large messages table) — a missing index degrades to the
pre-aggregated path. Cron sidebar info, insights and deep health checks in
api/routes.py use the same read-only opener.
Watcher (api/gateway_watcher.py): _poll_once returns without touching the
database when nobody is subscribed, and forces a fresh full projection on
the next subscription.
Maintenance (scripts/ensure_state_db_read_indexes.py): the covering read
indexes (idx_messages_session, idx_messages_session_role with NOCASE,
idx_sessions_webui_fingerprint) are created only under --confirm-drained,
optionally holding an exclusive flock on --lock-file for deployments that
serialise agent turns on a lock file; existing indexes are verified for
shape/collation and coverage (EXPLAIN QUERY PLAN), never silently
replaced.
Tests: tests/test_state_db_readonly_readers.py (read-only failure never
retries writable; no poll without subscribers; listing creates no index;
index tool requires drain, is idempotent, works without a lock file and
refuses a held lock; cron sidebar read is mode=ro). Neighbouring tests
that asserted the retired writable fallback / self-heal writer
(test_issue3887_index_prime, test_issue5455_listing_readonly_connection,
test_issue5455_lineage_readonly_reads, test_issue2628_cli_sessions_perf,
test_issue1494_state_db_fd_leak) now assert the read-only contract;
test_issue3506 subscribes before polling.
Classify Signal gateway sessions as messaging so they group, label, and list like other gateway platforms.

Observed: on a multi-profile install where one profile's state.db predates
the agent's `source` column, errors.log gained one identical line every
~15 s (276 lines in ~70 min):
api.models WARNING agent session listing skipped: state.db at
/data/hermes/profiles/planner/state.db has no 'source' column (older
hermes-agent?). Agent sessions unavailable. Upgrade hermes-agent to
fix this.
Mechanism: api/agent_sessions.py read_importable_agent_session_rows()
runs `PRAGMA table_info(sessions)` and warns unconditionally when the
column is absent (api/agent_sessions.py:564 before this change).
api/models.py get_cli_sessions(all_profiles=True) calls it for every
profile on every sidebar poll, behind only the 5 s
_CLI_SESSIONS_CACHE_TTL_SECONDS cache, so the same DB re-emits the same
warning on every cache miss. The condition is a property of the DB
file, not of the poll.
Fix: a module-level `_SOURCE_COLUMN_WARNED_DB_PATHS: set[str]` keyed by
the resolved db_path. The warning fires the first time a given path is
seen in the process and is suppressed after that; a different path
warns on its own. Message text is unchanged. Process-lifetime only: a
restart warns again, which is intended (the line remains the operator's
cue that the agent still needs upgrading). Plain set mutation under the
GIL is sufficient; a duplicate line from two racing first calls is
harmless.
Tests (tests/test_issue634.py, real pre-`source` sqlite DBs under
tmp_path, asserting on captured log records):
- same db_path called twice -> exactly one WARNING (failed before:
`assert 2 == 1`)
- two db_paths, then the first again -> exactly two WARNINGs, one per
path (failed before: `assert 3 == 2`)
The seven existing #634 source-shape tests still pass; neighbours
test_issue3762/3930/5455/1494 pass.
Deliberately not changed: the exception-path warning in
get_cli_sessions() (api/models.py), the read-only-open fallback warning,
and the 5 s cache TTL. The operator-side root cause (the agent
reconciler creating a pre-`source` state.db) is a separate upstream fix;
this only stops the repetition.
Re-gate #7021: two silent sidebar regressions on the #6931 continuation
tolerance.
1. MUST-FIX 1 — branch marker in model_config. The session_source=='fork'
guard only covers WebUI-created forks (/api/session/branch). Explicit
Agent branches/delegates carry no session_source: they are marked in the
model_config JSON column (_branched_from / _delegate_from). The caller
queries did not select model_config at all, so an Agent branch starting
inside the 2s tolerance window of its parent's compression passed the
widened check and vanished from the sidebar. Fix: select model_config in
the classifier's caller queries (get_cli_sessions, lineage report, lineage
metadata) and reject a child whose _branched_from / _delegate_from points
at the parent being classified, BEFORE the tolerance is applied. The
marker must reference this parent: compression continuations inherit the
rotated agent's model_config verbatim (mirrors hermes-agent
_NON_CONTINUATION_CHILD_FILTER_SQL).
2. MUST-FIX 2 — unbounded title fallback removed. Titles are user-controlled
and non-unique, so parent_title == child_title beyond the tolerance window
collapsed independent same-title branches arbitrarily far apart. The
fallback is gone entirely; only the bounded 2s early-side tolerance
(CONTINUATION_STARTED_AT_TOLERANCE_SECONDS) remains, after the reliable
non-continuation guards.
Tests: same-title independent child outside tolerance stays visible (was
collapsed); _branched_from/_delegate_from children inside the tolerance stay
visible (reviewer's adversarial probe); unit coverage for marker parsing
(JSON string, dict, unparsable) and marker-points-at-other-session
preservation. All 4 new tests are RED on the previous head and GREEN here.
Closes#6931
_is_continuation_session() required float(child.started_at) >= float(parent.ended_at).
A compression/cli_close handoff can persist the continuation row a few ms BEFORE
the parent's ended_at lands (write-order race), so the strict comparison returned
False despite every other piece of evidence (direct parent_session_id link, same
source, end_reason=compression/cli_close, non-fork). The backend then labeled the
continuation as relationship_type=child_session, causing duplicate same-title
sidebar rows and spurious child-session entries (#6931).
Allow a small tolerance (2s) for handoff-consistent timing; beyond it, an exact
title match on the parent/child rows still confirms the same handoff. Fork,
cross-source, and non-compression/cli_close guards are preserved, and materially
overlapping children remain separate child sessions.
Adds API-level regression tests (sub-second overlap forms one lineage; material
overlap stays a child session; same-title evidence beyond tolerance) plus focused
unit coverage of the classifier.
Closes#6931
* fix(goal): suppress reserved SILENT sentinel at /api/goal ingress
A wake relay POSTing the exact [SILENT] suppression sentinel to
/api/goal lets it reach _start_chat_stream_for_session, which persists
it as pending_user_message. If 8701 restarts while the turn is pending,
session recovery materializes it as a visible _recovered user turn —
the same phantom-recovered-turn exposure #7018 closed for chat ingress.
Apply the shared _is_silent_control_message() guard immediately after
/api/goal session-ID validation and before session lookup or goal-state
mutation, returning the same 200 no-op. Matching stays exact and
case-sensitive; ordinary kickoff text is unaffected.
Add tests mirroring test_silent_control_suppression.py for the goal
path (args and text fields, before-lookup suppression, exact-match
semantics).
Closes#7019
* fix(sessions): keep evicted subagent parents in the import window
The sidebar nests a subagent row under its parent only when the parent row
is present in the same payload. The visible-window limit was applied as a
flat per-row recency slice, so a frozen orchestrator (which stops writing
while its leaves keep streaming) lost the recency race against its own
leaves and fell outside the window -- promoting those leaves to top-level
sidebar rows.
Re-add subagent parents that the oversampled candidate set already
projected, after the slice. No extra queries, no change to
CLI_VISIBLE_SESSION_LIMIT. webui ancestors are deliberately not imported
because that sidebar bucket already owns them.
Supersedes #7031.
* fix(sessions): document and pin the parent-recovery bound (greptile review)
Greptile flagged (P1) that a selected subagent child whose parent ranks below
the limit * 8 oversample is still promoted to a top-level row. That is real and
measured (the parent drops out at candidate #25 of 24), but it is the bound of
the design, not a regression: the walk reuses rows the projection already
fetched and never issues an extra query. Resolving arbitrarily old ancestors
needs an unbounded per-row lookup on the hot sidebar path -- the approach
rejected in #7031 -- so the bound is documented and pinned instead.
- Docstring: state that `limit` bounds the recency slice, not the row count,
so callers must iterate rather than assume len(rows) <= limit; state that
recovery is bounded by the oversampled candidate set.
- Inline comment: mark the bound at the exact lines Greptile flagged and point
at `candidate_limit` as the knob if the window proves too tight.
- Tests: cover the candidate-window exhaustion Greptile said was untested --
parent inside the oversample is recovered, parent beyond it stays unresolved
-- plus the over-limit return contract and a parent-cycle guard.
No behaviour change; 7 tests pass.
* fix(share): add _hadAppearance guard to prevent fabricated appearance choice
Summary:
The inline appearance bootstrap in static/share.html writes hermes-theme and
hermes-skin to localStorage unconditionally on every page load, even when the
browser had no prior appearance state. This fabricates an explicit user choice
on first access via a shared link, making the server-side SETTINGS_DEFAULTS
unreachable for deployments that customise the default theme or skin.
Root Cause:
share.html:9 — the boot IIFE resolves a theme+skin and calls
localStorage.setItem() without guarding on whether the user had previously
chosen an appearance. The same bug was fixed in index.html by PR #6808
(commit tomtong2015) but share.html was left unchanged.
Change:
1. Added _hadAppearance guard before the two localStorage.setItem() calls:
var _hadAppearance = localStorage.getItem('hermes-theme') !== null ||
localStorage.getItem('hermes-skin') !== null;
if (_hadAppearance) { setItem('hermes-theme', t); setItem('hermes-skin', s); }
2. The first-paint DOM mutations (classList.add('dark'), dataset.skin) remain
outside the guard — only persistence is protected.
3. Synced the skin allowlist with index.html: added neon-soft and neon-paint
(zeus and verdigris were already present).
Verification:
- test_6808_appearance_bootstrap_no_fabricated_choice.py: 11/11 passed
covering fresh-browser (no writes), pre-paint fallback, explicit state
normalisation, and legacy migration survival.

* fix(tests): pin rebuild budget in issue2513 custom-provider catalog test
test (3.13, 4) failed on this PR with:

E AssertionError: assert '@custom:alpha-proxy:alpha/remote' in {'alpha/sticky'}
WARNING api.config:config.py:8355 live provider-catalog rebuild exceeded
4.0s budget - serving fallback, refreshing catalog out-of-band
Pre-existing wall-clock flake, not a regression from this PR: this branch
touches only api/agent_sessions.py and tests/test_subagent_parent_in_import_
window.py, and both api/config.py and this test file are byte-identical to
origin/master. The same shard passed on 3.11 and 3.12.
The test never pinned _LIVE_REBUILD_BUDGET_SECONDS, so it raced the global
4s budget in get_available_models(). On a starved runner the cold rebuild
overruns, the degraded fallback catalog is served, and the monkeypatched-
urlopen model alpha/remote is dropped - leaving only the config-declared
sticky model, exactly as CI observed.
Force the synchronous (unbounded) rebuild path, matching the existing
precedent in tests/test_issue2540_models_endpoint_error.py:20-24.
Verified: with the budget forced to 0.001s the unpatched test reproduces
the CI assertion verbatim; patched it passes at 0.001s, 0, and default.
* fix(#7013): preserve media deny coverage across platforms
* fix(docker): keep repository agents out of runtime context
* fix(docker): gate image runtime proof behind integration job
* test(models): stabilize custom provider catalog regression
* Release batch A: 6 low-risk gate-passed fixes (experimental)
Batched contributor fixes, each individually Codex-gated during the overnight
certifier cycles and re-verified clean-to-ship as a combined stage (Codex SAFE
TO SHIP on the combined diff; full suite green except 8 pre-existing approval
tests that fail identically on clean origin/master — CI green on same commit).

* feat(sidebar): add show_kanban_sessions toggle to hide kanban worker sessions
* fix(sidebar): kanban source-filter override + filtered-view cap (cron/webhook parity)
Gate re-review (Codex) found the kanban-hide addition missed cron/webhook
parity for the source-filter case:
- An explicit kanban source_filter now overrides the default hide (threaded
source_filter into _dedupe_cli_sidebar_sessions_for_api, normalized with
strip().lower() to match the loader), so a deliberate kanban view shows
those rows even with the toggle off. Scoped to the matching source only.
- A dedicated KANBAN_PROJECT_CHIP_LIMIT bounds a filtered kanban-only view,
mirroring CRON/WEBHOOK_PROJECT_CHIP_LIMIT.
Deliberately NOT changing the general exclude_sources: the original PR lets
kanban load on the source_filter=None path so the toggle-ON case works (the
hide is applied by _hide_from_default_sidebar only when the toggle is off).
Excluding kanban there would save the 20-row budget but break toggle-on
unless a bounded kanban merge is added (cron/webhook don't do that either) —
that query-budget optimization is deferred as a separate cross-cutting change.
The pinned-survives-hide finding is also out of scope (cron/webhook hide pinned
identically, confirmed by Codex). Adds bite-tested regressions.

* fix(reasoning): stop date-stamped Claude 3.0 ids from reading reasoning-capable
_candidate_supports_reasoning captured a trailing date stamp as the minor
version so bare date-stamped Claude 3.0 ids like claude-3-opus-20240229
satisfied the major==3 and minor>=7 gate and wrongly surfaced reasoning-effort
controls. Cap the minor group to 1-2 digits with a (?!\d) guard so the date
stamp is not read as a minor version -- the same date-stamp defense
_is_pre_adaptive_anthropic already uses. Claude 3.0/3.5 now correctly report
no reasoning support; 3.7+ and 4.x (incl. date-stamped builds) are unaffected.
* test(reasoning): cover date-stamped Claude 3.0 not reasoning-capable
Locks the heuristic so claude-3-opus-20240229 (and sibling date-stamped 3.0
ids) report no reasoning support while 3.7+/4.x stay capable.
* fix(session): classify ACP adapter sessions into the CLI sidebar family
Gateway ACP adapter sessions (source='acp' in state.db — Zed, external
device bridges like a Rabbit R1) normalised to session_source 'other',
which fell through BOTH sidebar buckets: sidebar_source=webui skips the
state.db projection entirely (and ACP rows have no WebUI sidecar), while
sidebar_source=cli keeps only CLI-classified rows. Result: ACP
conversations were invisible and could never be clicked/imported.
Classify 'acp' as a CLI-family source, mirroring 'tui' (a local
interactive agent client): normalize_agent_session_source maps it to
session_source 'cli' with label 'ACP', is_cli_session_row recognises the
raw source, is_cli_session_row_visible keeps ended/untitled ACP rows
visible (they are always user-driven), and frontend _isCliSession
accepts raw === 'acp'. Zero-message ACP connect/reconnect stubs stay
hidden via the existing message-count guard. Claim policy is untouched:
ACP stays claimable like CLI/TUI per the documented 'future local agent
sources' allowance in _is_claimable_cli_source.
Rollback: revert this commit (pre-change file copies also in
~/.hermes/backups/acp-sidebar-fix-20260711/), then restart WebUI.

* fix(session): require a user turn before surfacing ACP rows
An ended ACP connection can record only assistant/tool/system messages
(replayed or aborted turn), which the blanket TUI-style visibility
exception would surface despite not being user-driven. Gate the ACP
branch on _count_user_turns(row) > 0, per Greptile review on #5939.

Fixes the #5831 brick: "WebUI sessions (N)" chip showed a count but an empty list.
Server is_cli_session_row classified read-only external_agent imports (Claude Code,
Codex) with a real title as non-CLI (counted under webui_session_count), while the
client _isCliSession filed them in the CLI bucket -> mismatch. Server now classifies
external_agent/external-agent as CLI, matching the client. WebUI/messaging/subagent
unaffected (their exclusions precede the new branch); external_agent imports stay read-only.
Self-built (nesquena-hermes); independent nesquena review APPROVED on this head (17:28);
gate-pass (Codex SAFE, no over-capture, caller audit clean), 14 own + 180 regression green.

The session-listing path already opens the live agent state.db read-only
(file:...?mode=ro) so a write-capable handle doesn't add checkpoint/lock
surface while the agent streams into the same WAL DB (#5455). Three pure-read
projections were missed and still opened a read-WRITE connection:
- read_session_lineage_report
- read_session_lineage_metadata
- the gateway-watcher fingerprint projection (a 5s poll)
Route all three through a shared open_state_db_readonly() helper that mirrors
the listing path: read-only file: URI with a writable fallback that warns. The
self-heal write path (missing idx_messages_session) is intentionally left
writable. No behavior change beyond open mode; reads perform zero writes.
Refs #5455
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
read_importable_agent_session_rows() is a pure read, but it opened a
read-write sqlite connection on the live multi-GB WAL state.db and re-ran a
defensive CREATE INDEX self-heal on every sidebar build. Holding a
write-capable handle while the agent streams into the same DB adds needless
checkpoint/lock surface.
Open the DB read-only (file:...?mode=ro) for the projection, and self-heal a
missing idx_messages_session through a separate short-lived writable
connection only. With the index present (the normal case) the read path
performs zero writes; when it is missing the self-heal still runs and rows
still come back.
Behavior-neutral: identical rows when the index exists; self-heal preserved
when missing; read-only-fs degradation to the pre-aggregated path unchanged.
Tests: tests/test_issue5455_listing_readonly_connection.py (read-only open,
no writable connection when index present, self-heal when missing).

- api/agent_sessions.py is_cli_session_row(): add 'subagent' to non_cli_sources
so EVERY consumer (sidebar rows, /api/sessions, etc.) classifies a delegated
child as non-CLI (the root the per-site fixes were compensating for).
- api/routes.py GET /api/session happy path: coerce is_cli_session=False +
read_only=True in the serialized payload for a subagent child before redaction,
so a stale writable sidecar can't be exposed as writable to the browser.
Fixes#5307
A stale sidecar with is_cli_session=true could make an archived
cron/tool/API session resurface in the Sessions tab on refresh. The
session loader now treats explicit cron/tool/api source metadata as
non-CLI even when the sidecar claims is_cli_session, and preserves cron
identity when the archive/materialization fallback creates a session.

* fix(sidebar): prime idx_messages_session before CLI-session scan (#3887)
The sidebar's CLI-session scan (read_importable_agent_session_rows) orders
candidate sessions by a correlated MAX(timestamp) subquery over messages,
which collapses to a full per-session table scan when the agent's standard
idx_messages_session ON messages(session_id, timestamp) index is absent.
A normally-migrated hermes-agent state.db has it; a db that lost its
migrations (older hermes-agent, or a hand-rebuilt/reimported db) does not,
and /api/sessions then stalls for seconds on every refresh (the 5s cache
TTL never settles -> repeating 'Slow WebUI request still running' warnings).
Prime the index with CREATE INDEX IF NOT EXISTS before the scan: a no-op
when it already exists, a ~20ms self-heal otherwise (measured 13.3s ->
0.009s on a no-index 8k-session db). Best-effort: degrades silently on a
read-only db, a locked db, or a minimal schema without a timestamp column.
Closes#3887
* test(#3887): skip read-only-db test under root (greptile P2)
Root bypasses POSIX permission bits, so chmod 0444 doesn't make the file
read-only for root — the prime would succeed and the test would validate the
wrong path, giving false confidence on root-run CI. Skip under root; the
production handler's except sqlite3.Error: pass covers the read-only/locked/
corrupted/older-schema cases regardless.

* fix(sessions): resolve branchy compression lineage to the freshest tip (#3751)
Compression parents can have multiple continuation-looking children when a stale
segment is resumed after a newer compressed branch already exists. The previous
projection followed the newest DIRECT child only, so it could hide the deeper
branch with the latest real activity and make a conversation look missing/stale
after compaction or session rotation.
- compression_tip() now walks ALL reachable continuation descendants (DFS) and
selects the freshest importable (messageful) tip by (last_activity, depth).
- read_session_lineage_metadata() expands descendants from the materialized
ancestors via the parent index (scoped, 20-hop cap), pulls per-session message
stats from the messages table, and exposes a canonical _lineage_tip_id so the
WebUI sidebar collapse picks the same tip as the projection.
Backward-compat hardening (two release-gate Codex findings, both fixed + tested):
The new message-stats / tip-scoring code must not raise on older/minimal or
non-standard state.db schemas, which previously collapsed the whole projection:
- messages table with NO `timestamp` column → MAX(timestamp) raised in SQL →
read_session_lineage_metadata returned {} (lost all lineage metadata).
- ISO-8601 TEXT messages.timestamp → float()/raw comparison raised TypeError;
in read_importable_agent_session_rows that propagated through compression_tip
and get_cli_sessions() swallowed it, hiding ALL imported agent rows.
Fixes:
- PRAGMA table_info(messages) detection: require session_id, only SELECT
MAX(timestamp) when present (else NULL + COUNT only); fall back to message_count.
- new _as_score() helper (first numerically-coercible value, else next
candidate e.g. started_at) used at EVERY tip-scoring / sort site in both
compression_tip() and freshest_continuation_tip(), plus the projection sort.
- regression tests: lineage metadata survives REAL/absent/TEXT messages.timestamp,
and read_importable_agent_session_rows survives a TEXT timestamp (no empty hide).

---------
Co-authored-by: nesquena-hermes <[email protected]>
Production WebUI on macOS launchd reproduced an HTTP-unhealthy wedge after
#1483 closed the bootstrap supervisor double-fork: process alive, port
listening, every HTTP request reset by peer before a response. The reporter
(@insecurejezza) traced it to FD exhaustion — 366 open FDs on the wedged
process, 238 of them `~/.hermes/state.db`, `state.db-wal`, and `state.db-shm`.
Root cause: four sqlite callsites use `with sqlite3.connect(...) as conn:`.
Python's sqlite3 connection context manager only commits or rolls back on
exit; it does NOT close the connection. `/api/sessions` polling calls these
on every sidebar refresh, so each poll leaked one or more open state.db FDs
until the process hit macOS's soft FD limit and new sqlite3.connect() calls
inside fresh request handlers raised before any response bytes were written.
Fix: wrap each `sqlite3.connect(...)` in `contextlib.closing(...)` so the
connection is explicitly closed on scope exit, in addition to the auto-
commit / rollback semantics that `Connection.__exit__` already provides.
Callsites patched:
- api/agent_sessions.py:read_importable_agent_session_rows
- api/agent_sessions.py:read_session_lineage_metadata
- api/models.py:get_cli_session_messages
- api/models.py:delete_cli_session
Reporter's verification (post-patch, 100-request stress loop against
/api/sessions and /api/projects):
batch=1 fd=92 state_handles=0
batch=2 fd=92 state_handles=0
...
batch=5 fd=92 state_handles=0
Pre-patch the same loop made FD count and state.db handle count climb
monotonically.
4 regression tests in tests/test_issue1494_state_db_fd_leak.py monkeypatch
sqlite3.connect with a tracking wrapper that records .close() calls and
assert every connection opened by each of the four functions is explicitly
closed. Verified to fail (catching the original bug) when the closing()
wrap is reverted: "leaked 5 of 5 sqlite connection(s) — context-manager-
only `with sqlite3.connect()` does not close. Wrap in contextlib.closing()."
This addresses Bug #2 of the umbrella issue #1458. Bug #3 (HTTP-unhealthy
wedge in the absence of FD exhaustion) remains open pending separate
diagnostic data — explicit scope discipline.
