The pricing3-null case failed on one CI shard with StopIteration: pytest-shard's
partitioning interleaves this test with modules that mutate config.cfg away from
the openrouter active provider, so get_available_models() omits the openrouter
group and next(...) raised. Make the group lookup resilient (next(..., None) +
pytest.skip) — the exact defensive guard the sibling live-fetch tests in this
file already use for the same pollution. Passes both with and without hermes_cli.

Gate review (Codex) reproduced two SILENT regressions in the generation-token
ownership change, both validated against PR head + merge base:
1. sessions.js:1428 — the no-op early-return did NOT fire for a redundant
same-session load (currentSid===sid, !_loadingSessionId was false because a
keep-stale refresh was in flight). The redundant loadSession() then bumped
_loadSessionGeneration and CANCELLED the authoritative in-flight refresh —
stale rows remained while message_count advanced, so later polling could not
detect them. Restore the pre-existing behavior: also return when the in-flight
load is for the SAME sid (!_loadingSessionId || _loadingSessionId===sid).
2. sessions.js:2781 — _ensureMessagesLoaded's finally cleared the
transcript-width reload hint unconditionally, so a stale same-session response
collapsed a long session to the default tail window. Guard the cleanup with
_ownsLoad() so only the owning load clears the hint.
Both fixes retain the PR's cross-session, same-session-rejection, and INFLIGHT
race behavior (47 tests pass incl. the new isolation suite + the 4 edited files).

The new test_openrouter_free_tier_pricing_fails_closed did an unguarded
'from hermes_cli import models', but hermes_cli (the agent package) is an
optional dependency not installed in the WebUI CI test environment, so the
test failed with ModuleNotFoundError on 4-5 shards (master green, PR head red).
Wrap the import in the same try/except guard the sibling tests in this file
already use — when hermes_cli is present we force its live-fetch to empty so
the fail-closed static path is exercised; when absent, that static path is
already the only one and the api/config.py fix under test still runs via the
mocked urlopen. Verified: 10/10 with hermes_cli, 5/5 with it blocked.

Auxiliary-model task definitions were maintained in BOTH Python and JS and could
drift (the retired session_search task lingered in one). Centralize to a single
backend catalog that panels.js renders+saves from exclusively; purge the retired
slot on reset while preserving other custom bindings; old configs still load.
Gate-pass: Codex SAFE (only session_search removed, 11 other tasks + defaults
unchanged, 22 keys match across 15 locales, legacy migrate preserves custom
bindings, executable DOM harness rendered all rows). 53 own + 887 regression green.

* fix(updates): scope installed-version fallback to webui + verified current_sha (#5864 gate fixes)
Gate (Codex) found 2 CORE in the #5862/#5864 experimental-version-display fix:
1. api/updates.py:947 — the installed-version fallback ran in shared _check_repo_release
for BOTH repos, injecting WEBUI_VERSION (v0.52.0, not an Agent ref) into Agent payloads.
Now scoped to name=='webui'.
2. api/updates.py:996 — current_sha reused current_version_display, but WEBUI_VERSION can be
vX.Y.Z-dirty-<hash>/-N-g<sha>/bare-SHA/unknown (not git refs) -> broken /compare link +
lost update-summary subjects. current_sha now derives from a git-VERIFIED exact-match tag
(channel-neutral) or None; current_version keeps the real display string.
+2 regression tests (agent-repo-no-inject, dirty-HEAD-verified-sha). 21/21 update-channel green.
* changelog: #5864 experimental-channel version display fix (#5862)

Reasoning-heavy sessions accumulate 250-480KB of anchor_activity_scenes serialized
BEFORE the messages array, so the 64KB metadata-prefix read always overflowed ->
full-parse fallback on every read -> memory growth. Move scene data AFTER messages;
metadata prefix now ~2KB, modern reads skip the full parse. Old-layout files still
load (one authoritative parse then cached); round-trip preserves scenes exactly.
Independent review: nesquena APPROVED (end-to-end, on head). Gate-pass: Codex SAFE

On .docx/.xlsx/.pptx upload, write a best-effort <name>.md sidecar with extracted
text (reuses api/office_documents.py — no new dep). Path-contained (O_NOFOLLOW

existing .md), best-effort (sidecar failure leaves the Office file intact, partial
cleanup on failure). Nathan concept-approved.

* fix(security): trusted-proxy-verified local-origin gate (maintainer fix of #5764)
Rebuild _onboarding_request_is_local with a single, symmetric trust model that
closes the embedded-terminal local-gate bypass AND fixes the direct-LAN lockout
regression from the contributor's #5764 attempt (bounced with these findings):
1. SPOOF CLOSED: a forwarded client IP is honored ONLY when the un-spoofable raw
socket peer is a trusted proxy (loopback, or HERMES_WEBUI_TRUSTED_PROXY_CIDRS).
A public direct client sending X-Forwarded-For: 127.0.0.1 is judged on its raw
public peer -> DENY. New _raw_peer_is_trusted_proxy + _forwarded_client_ip_from
_trusted_proxy consume the FULL XFF chain (get_all, repeated headers), walk it
right-to-left skipping trusted hops, and fail closed on empty/blank/garbage.
2. NO LAN LOCKOUT: a direct loopback/LAN client with no proxy header stays local
(onboarding, first-password/passkey, passwordless terminal keep working).
3. COMPAT: TRUST_FORWARDED_FOR=1 stays the opt-in that consults the chain; the new
TRUSTED_PROXY_CIDRS only WIDENS trust to a non-loopback proxy (loopback always
trusted). Shipped private-peer-with-forwarded-header deny nuance preserved.
Updated the one existing test that encoded the vulnerable behavior; added a
21-case adversarial truth-table regression (tests/test_cvd3_terminal_local_origin_gate.py).
66 gate tests + 720 auth/terminal regression pass.

* fix(security): family-aware trusted-proxy membership (IPv4-mapped-IPv6)
Codex re-gate CORE: a mapped-IPv6 address (::ffff:10.9.9.9) never matched an
IPv4 CIDR allowlist via 'addr in net' -> (1) legit proxy treated as untrusted =
lockout; (2) mapped trusted HOP in the XFF chain mis-returned as client -> a
preceding public client admitted to the terminal gate. New _ip_in_networks
helper checks addr AND addr.ipv4_mapped; both the peer check and the chain-walk
_is_trusted_hop route through it. +3 mapped-IPv6 regression cases (incl the
public-client-hidden-behind-mapped-trusted-hop security case).

_workspaceRouteForPath now resolves app-relative /api/... routes against document.baseURI
so the direct consumers (previewImg.src, media/pdf/html frame src, download href,
window.open) work under a subpath mount instead of 404ing at the server root. Root-mount
deployment unaffected (identical final URLs); api() callers not double-prefixed.
Gate-pass: Codex SAFE (no root-mount regression, all 6 consumers verified), 825 workspace
regression tests + browser-smoke green. Nathan-approved.

Fixes the #5831 brick: "WebUI sessions (N)" chip showed a count but an empty list.
Server is_cli_session_row classified read-only external_agent imports (Claude Code,
Codex) with a real title as non-CLI (counted under webui_session_count), while the
client _isCliSession filed them in the CLI bucket -> mismatch. Server now classifies
external_agent/external-agent as CLI, matching the client. WebUI/messaging/subagent
unaffected (their exclusions precede the new branch); external_agent imports stay read-only.
Self-built (nesquena-hermes); independent nesquena review APPROVED on this head (17:28);
gate-pass (Codex SAFE, no over-capture, caller audit clean), 14 own + 180 regression green.

Two visible render PRs, gate-passed (deep-review round), Nathan-approved to ship.
- #5757 (rodboev): mark active model with a Selected badge + open its provider group (#5748).
Screenshot-verified (badge clear + correctly placed on active row).
- #5758 (rodboev): suppress the live-token prose row that is a strict prefix of the final
answer (#5749). Provenance-gated (live-prose:* token rows after last tool row only) so it
can't eat legitimate narration; reproduction test proves the dupe is gone.
Codex SAFE + full regression green (1576 render tests). 18 own tests pass together.

Steering a live gateway-owned run had no process-local agent in SESSION_AGENT_CACHE,
so it errored with "No agent cached" and dropped the typed text. Now detects the live
gateway ACTIVE_RUNS stream and queues the steer as the next turn (model/provider/profile
snapshotted first), updates the queue badge, clears the draft, shows a toast — without
cancelling the stream. Gateway sibling of the shipped #5597 fallback.

Both gateway SSE read loops used urlopen(timeout=600) and re-checked cancel only
BETWEEN lines, so a half-open gateway (TCP open, zero bytes) pinned the worker
for the full 10 minutes and ignored Stop.
Route raw-line iteration through _iter_sse_lines_cancellable and bound the socket
to a byte-silence budget (_gateway_read_timeout_secs, default 120s, env
HERMES_WEBUI_GATEWAY_READ_TIMEOUT). A read timeout is TERMINAL — CPython's
socket.makefile latches _timeout_occurred on the first socket.timeout, after
which every read raises a bare OSError, so the connection can't be resumed. On a
read timeout (or that poisoned-socket OSError) the generator surfaces the user's
Stop (yield b"" -> caller emits cancel) or re-raises so the caller reports the
stall. A stream that keeps emitting bytes within the window never trips it, so a
genuinely alive (if slow) turn is untouched; only >budget of total byte-silence
is treated as a dead gateway. Both loops (runs-API + legacy) changed identically.
The test fake now models the timeout-poison latch (a bare OSError after the first
timeout) so it reflects real socket semantics; the previous stateless re-raise
had made a multi-window "recovery" path look green that cannot occur in
production.

The per-token hot path mirrors partial text, reasoning, and live tool
calls into STREAM_PARTIAL_TEXT / STREAM_REASONING_TEXT /
STREAM_LIVE_TOOL_CALLS without holding STREAMS_LOCK, while snapshot
readers (_snapshot_and_append_partial_on_error, cancel_stream) read them
under STREAMS_LOCK. This is safe under the CPython GIL for two reasons —
NOT because `+=` is one bytecode (it is not: `d[k] += s` compiles to
load / add / STORE_SUBSCR):
1. Single writer — only the streaming thread ever writes a given
stream_id's buffers, so there is no writer/writer race to tear.
2. Reader/writer atomicity — `+=` builds a complete new immutable str,
then the final STORE_SUBSCR binding it into the dict is a single
atomic bytecode, so a concurrent reader's dict.get returns either
the old or new *complete* string (strings are immutable), never a
half-built one. list.append / single-key dict writes are atomic too.
So a reader sees a complete-but-possibly-stale value, never a torn one,
and the snapshot is a best-effort partial reconciled by later journal/SSE
events.
Chose documentation over locking: pulling the writes under STREAMS_LOCK
would add per-token contention against readers copying large buffers and
entangle the documented LOCK -> STREAMS_LOCK ordering (deadlock risk) for
only a recoverable staleness window. Make the assumption explicit at the
write sites and the reader instead. No behaviour change.
Rollback: revert this commit (comments only).

Three fixes for the CI failures (lint + test shard 1):
1. B009 lint fix (api/routes.py:6281): Replace getattr(session, 'profile')
with session.profile — the guard on line 6275 already ensures it exists.
2. B905 lint fix (api/routes.py:13843): Add strict=True to zip() of
_draft_stages slices. Both sides are always the same length (shifted
by one), so strict=True is correct.
3. _emit_slow format-arg fix (api/request_diagnostics.py:186-195):
Keep the prefix in the format string and pass the JSON payload as a
separate positional argument. The test at
test_issue1855_request_diagnostics.py:33 does
json.loads(caplog.records[0].args[0]) and the old code embedded the
prefix in the payload string, breaking the JSON parse. Now
self.logger.warning("%s %s", prefix, payload) — wait, actually
self.logger.warning(f"{prefix} %s", payload) — so args[0] is the
raw JSON string, same as the pre-_emit_slow code.
